The MICHELIN Guide California covers the whole state. Starred restaurants lead this list, and California carries enough of them that the top rung of the ladder fills all ten places on its own.

Why these ten
California is the only state where the first rung of the ladder answers the whole question. The 2026 California selection, announced at a ceremony in San Diego on 24 June 2026, left ten restaurants holding three MICHELIN stars, more than the rest of the United States combined, so the list never has to reach two stars, Bib Gourmand, or James Beard recognition. Californios is the entry with the widest significance beyond the state: it is the first Mexican restaurant anywhere in the world to hold three stars. Enclos is the anomaly of the cycle, going from a two-star debut to three stars in a single year.
Ties are broken by the year the third star was first awarded, oldest first. Atelier Crenn and SingleThread share 2019, Providence and Somni share 2025, and Californios and Enclos share 2026; within each of those pairs the order is alphabetical rather than a ranking.
