Top Ten Restaurants in Maine

9 of the 10 are pinned on the map above. Neither OpenStreetMap nor Wikidata carries a location for Street and Co., so it is listed below but not pinned — a missing pin is left missing rather than guessed at. Each row also links straight to its own location in Google Maps.

The MICHELIN Guide does not yet publish a selection covering Maine, so this list leads with James Beard Foundation recognition.

Why these ten

Maine has the strongest James Beard record of any state outside a MICHELIN selection in this series. Five Maine chefs have won Best Chef: Northeast since 2000, three America's Classics awards have gone to Maine, and Dana Street took Outstanding Restaurateur in June 2026 for Fore Street, Scales, Standard Baking Co. and Street and Co. Fore Street already holds Sam Hayward's 2004 chef award, so Street and Co. carries the restaurateur win here rather than duplicating the same address.

Seven James Beard winners survived the open-for-business check, so slots eight through ten come from the Wikipedia-notable tier, ordered by the year each opened. Those three rows name no awarding body because none exists for them; they clear the ladder's fourth tier, which admits a restaurant carrying its own Wikipedia article.

Four Maine James Beard winners are deliberately absent. Waterman's Beach Lobster in South Thomaston won America's Classics in 2001 and closed in 2016. Allagash Brewing won Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Producer in 2019 but is a production brewery, not a restaurant. The Quarry in Monson (Outstanding Hospitality, 2023) and Norimoto Bakery in Portland (Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker, 2024) could not be confirmed as currently operating, and the rule here is that an unconfirmed restaurant stays off the list. Arrows in Ogunquit and Hugo's in Portland, whose chefs won in 2010 and 2009, could not be confirmed either.
