Crops that still crop with only part of the day in direct sun. Useful for the north side of a building, under a fruit tree, or any bed a fence shades for half the afternoon.
Root vegetables
Radishes, carrots, potatoes, and beets will grow on as little as three to four hours of direct sun with light or dappled shade for the rest of the day.
Leafy greens
Lettuce, arugula, kale, bok choy, and chard are content with a few hours of sunshine each day.
Cruciferous vegetables
Broccoli and kale do well in partial shade, though they want closer to six hours of direct sun than the greens above.
