1. Principal Role in a SAG-AFTRA Project
- If you are hired as a principal performer (a role with lines) in a project covered by a SAG-AFTRA contract, you become eligible to join immediately.
2. Background Work (SAG Vouchers)
- If you work as a background actor (extra) on a SAG-AFTRA project and receive three SAG vouchers (one for each day of work at full SAG rates), you become eligible to join.
3. Membership in an Affiliated Union
- If you are a paid-up member of an affiliated performers’ union (like AFTRA, AEA, AGMA, AGVA, or ACTRA) for at least one year and have worked at least once as a principal performer in that union’s jurisdiction, you become eligible
Once eligible, you must submit proof of eligibility, fill out the application, and pay the initiation fee (currently around $3,000) plus annual dues
